Bathinda, December 22

The intense cold wave, which has the entire North India in its grip, today claimed one more life in Bathinda. This is the second death caused by the chilly weather in three days in the city. As per information received by the NGO Sahara Jan Sewa, a homeless beggar was found dead inside a train on platform number 5 at Bathinda junction this morning.

On receiving information from the railway authorities, volunteers of the NGO Sahara Jan Sewa reached the station and took the body to the Civil Hospital, Bathinda, for the postmortem where he was declared dead. On Saturday, a farmer had lost his life due to the chilly weather.

Meanwhile, the weather in the city oscillated among sunny, cloudy and windy. As per the information gathered from the agricultural-meteorological department of Punjab Agricultural University’s regional centre, Bathinda, Monday was comparatively less colder than Sunday.

While on Sunday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 15 degree Celsius, on Monday it was recorded at 12.4 degree Celsius. The minimum temperature, however, increased from being recorded at 3.6 degree Celsius on Sunday to 5.2 degree Celsius on Monday. The wind velocity was recorded at two kms per hour. As per the experts, the minimum temperature rose on Monday because of the cloud cover over the region.

As per the forecast released by the Indian Meteorological Department for the next five days, the weather is expected to remain the same in Bathinda and its adjoining areas. The IMD stated that over the week, while the minimum temperature will hover around five degree Celsius, the maximum temperature will be recorded around 14 degree Celsius. It also ruled out any possibility of the region receiving any rainfall in the coming days and predicted a possibility of thick fog enveloping the area.
