Bathinda, January 16

The Municipal Corporation of Bathinda (MCB) is making last-ditch efforts these days to secure a good rank in the ongoing Swachhta Survekshan 2019.

However, residents claim that earlier they have not seen workers washing the dividers or cleaning the area like this in the city.

The MCB is leaving no stone unturned to secure top rank in the state. It has gone overboard by washing road dividers to make the city appear clean in front of the special team. Even water was sprinkled on the roads to settle dust.

Commuters on the main roads were amused to see that the MCB had sprinkled water on roads on Wednesday for the common man as earlier sprinkling of waters was done only on VIP routes when any politicians had to come or pass through the road.

Even cleaning of roads in the areas have been intensified these days as compared to normal days. The sanitary inspectors are also checking the areas and monitoring the work of sanitation workers, claimed residents.

In Swachhta Survekshan-2019, the Union Urban Development Ministry has kept 5,000 marks. Last year, there were 4,000 marks in three categories, but this year 1,000 marks of certification have been added. Star rating has 800 marks and ODF has 200 marks.

This is the fourth year of the survey. In the first year, 73 cities were included; in the second year, 434 cities and last year 4,203 cities were included in survey. This year, the whole country has been included in the survey.

This year, Bathinda is facing huge pressure as last year it bagged the first position in the state, leaving behind Mohali.

This year, the issues which Bathinda is facing are garbage processing has been started but it is not total. There is no disposal arrangement of plastic packets of Lays, Maggi, Kurkure and other food items, in place. Even secondary points of garbage collection have not been dealt with in the city so far.
