BATHINDA: ‘Lohri’ was celebrated with traditional fervour by the students and teachers of Doon Senior Secondary Public School, Kararwala, on Saturday.

‘Lohri’ was celebrated with traditional fervour by the students and teachers of Doon Senior Secondary Public School, Kararwala, on Saturday.

Chairperson of the school, Charanjit Kaur Dhillon, said Lohri is celebrated to remove social evils and spread happiness among the young and the old.

School principal Parminder Kaur presided over the function. In the beginning, a short speech was given by the language teacher to make the students aware of the significance of the festival. A welcome song was sung followed by a dance performance by the students.

Giddha was another entertaining performance by the senior students. The students were told that Lohri should be celebrated for the girl child as well. The festival ended by lighting up a huge bonfire to symbolise the homage and saluting of the Sun God. Eatables were distributed among the students.

Mount Litera Zee School

Lohri was celebrated with fervour at Mount Litera Zee School, Rampura, on Saturday.

The principal of the school, Namita Bansal, informed the students about the importance of the occasion and motivated them. An inter-house basketball match was also organized in which the Einstein House won.

The programme began with a bonfire. President of the school management Gagan Bansal and principal Namita Bansal, along with teachers and students, worshipped the ‘Dhooni’ followed by distribution of groundnuts and sweets among the students. The students and teachers sang songs immersed in rich cultural folklore of Punjab.

Malwa College

The management, staff and students of Malwa College and Malwa College of Physical Education celebrated Lohri with fun and frolic. A bonfire was lit by the office-bearers of the college management. Principal NK Gosain and director Darshan Singh highlighted the importance of the festival. They appealed to the students to consign the evil in the Lohri fire. They added that such festivals are celebrated throughout the country to foster the spirit of communal harmony and universal brotherhood.

DAV College

Lohri celebrations were held with great fanfare at the DAV College, Bathinda. A bonfire was lit and peanuts, popcorn and revari offered.

The birth of daughters, sons, and grandchildren was celebrated on the occasion and prayers were offered for the healthy life of the newborns. The newlyweds were congratulated and blessed.

College secretary Shishpal Jindal congratulated the staff members who had recently tied the nuptial bond and the members who had been blessed with children recently. He hoped the festival would inculcate a sense of righteousness among the people.
