Labourer kills farmer who hired him

AMRITSAR: A farmer, identified as Daljit Singh (28), was murdered by a migrant in Cheleke village, falling under the Lopoke police station, here on Friday.

A farmer, identified as Daljit Singh (28), was murdered by a migrant in Cheleke village, falling under the Lopoke police station, here on Friday.

The deceased had hired the migrant around two days ago for sowing paddy. The accused has been identified as Bunty. He was nabbed by villagers and later handed over to the police. A case under Section 302 of the IPC has been against him. The police are yet to ascertain the reason behind the murder.

Kulbir Singh, brother of the deceased, informed the police that Daljit met Bunty outside the village around two days ago and he asked him to join the sowing paddy for him. Bunty agreed so he brought him home. On Friday, Daljit Singh, along with Bunty, went to his fields. When they were going to fields, the accused suddenly attacked him with a spade, hitting him on his head. Daljit fell on the ground and the accused hit with around four times, leaving him critically injured. By the time he reached there, the accused fled away from the spot. Daljit was taken to the Civil Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

SHO Harpal Singh, who is investigating the case, said interrogation was on to ascertain the reason behind the murder. — TNS
