MUKTSAR: In the last one week, the police have arrested 17 people under various sections of the NDPS Act in the Muktsar district.

In the last one week, the police have arrested 17 people under various sections of the NDPS Act in the Muktsar district. The police have claimed to seize nine-kg poppy husk, 9,755 sedative pills and 34-gm heroin.

Notably, in some villages, residents came forward and caught hold of addicts and suppliers as well. On Friday, at Kotli village, residents caught two people who had allegedly come to purchase drugs. Similarly, a few days ago, the villagers had also nabbed two addicts.

Last week, residents of Thehri village caught two people while taking drugs.

A senior police officer said, “A team is visiting schools, colleges and other institutes to spread awareness among youngsters. Besides, some movies are being shown to the public by installing a projector at common land in villages,” he added.

He said, “A WhatsApp number (805-420-0166) has been launched to get information about usage and sale of drugs. The sender’s name will be kept confidential and action will be taken against drug addicts and suppliers.”
