Malout, June 14

Members of the Sweepers’ Union on Thursday lodged a protest at Muktsar, Malout and Gidderbaha – all three sub-divisional towns – in the district. Besides, they went on a three-day strike from today.

The protesters said if the state government did not fulfil their demand, they would go on strike for an indefinite period. “It will create a number of problems for local residents. Thus, we have warned the government to fulfil our demands, including the regularisation of their services,” said the protesters.

Notably, the garbage lifting system is already poor in these towns and the strike may worsen the situation.
