The Government Primary School of Lohara village in Gidderbaha sub-division is scripting a success story. The school had just five trees and plants in 2006, but the number has now reached to 250. Further, this school has been declared ‘Swachh Vidyalaya’ at the state level.

Students and village residents say it is the hard work of teachers that has paid off. The campus now has beautiful paintings, which also prove helpful for the students to learn things. The students and teachers have also prepared four beautiful lawns.

Jyoti Jaidka, head teacher of the school, said “Presently, 143 students are enrolled and we are six teachers deployed here. The students and teachers are working as a team. The village residents too are very supportive. The school is having all basic infrastructure, including RO water treatment plant and good-quality furniture. Further, a smart class room has also been established here.”

Gurmeet Singh, a teacher, said “There are 300 books in the school library. Our students have also topped in various competitions held by the Punjab School Education Board. Besides, the school has been awarded under the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ programme as well.”

Village residents say the teachers of other primary schools should visit the school and try to copy the model presented by these teachers. They also appealed to the district administration to honour the school staff on the coming Republic Day function.
