Power Minister Gurpreet Singh Kangar on Monday launched a drive to distribute free saplings under the Tandarust Punjab mission of the state government.

He started it from Mehraj, the ancestral village of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. The minister also planted a sapling at Government Senior Secondary School (Boys) in the village.

Addressing a gathering, the minister said to achieve the aim of having a clean and green earth for future generations, they would have to start working today.

He added that apart from planting saplings, taking care till these grow and turn into trees was also necessary.

“If all of us plant one sapling in our houses or in our surrounding areas, the earth will turn into a better place,” he said.

Also present on the occasion was Forest Officer Amritpal Singh Brar, who made the gathering aware of subsidy that is offered on each plant to farmers by the state government under the Ghar Ghar Haryali Scheme.
