Bathinda: The police on Friday claimed to have arrested two persons and seized 24 kgs of opium from their possession. They had reportedly brought it from Manipur. On the directions of the SSP, an anti-drugs team was constituted, which was headed by SP (D) Swaran Singh Khanna, and included DSP Gurpreet Singh and CIA staff. Near the Buddha Dal Gurdwara, a grey colour Datsun Go car came from Gill Kalan village side and during checking, the opium was recovered. They have been identified as Kawaldeep Singh alias Kawal, a resident of Imphal, and Sanjiv Roshan alias Parmod Giri, a resident of Bihar. The police claimed that during interrogation, both accused had admitted that they brought opium at Rs 1.10 lakh per kg and would sell it at Rs 1.35 lakh per kg in Punjab. They had taken a rented room at Bachtar Nagar in Ludhiana to store the drug. Till now, they have supplied around three quintals to their customers in the state. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused at the Rampura (City) police station. The police would present the accused in the court on Saturday. TNS
