The Bathinda police claimed to have arrested four persons for the death of Sukhpal Kaur (55), who used to live alone at her house in Kotguru village in Sangat block. She was found dead at her house on the intervening night of August 16 and 17.

The police had booked unidentified persons on the statement of deceased’s daughter Gurpreet Kaur at the Sangat police station. During a preliminary investigation, it was found that the neck of the woman was strangled with a cloth. Thereafter, a sharp object was hit on her head.

SSP Dr Nanak Singh said: “Teams constituted by the police under DSP Kuldeep Singh and CIA staff-1 incharge Amritpal Singh Bhatti have cracked the case with the arrest of the suspects.”

The suspects have been identified as Jasvir Singh, alias Sukha; his friends Jagtar Singh, Manga Singh and Joginder Singh. According to the police, Jasvir Singh, who is the son of the deceased, was working as ‘sevadar’ in a gurdwara at Niamiwala Behbal Kalan in Kotkapura.

The SSP said Jasvir was not happy from her mother as the latter was suspicious of his character. He said therefore, he planned to kill her.

The police said Jagtar of Doda village in Faridkot was already out on bail in a murder case. — TNS
