Yoga camp concludes at CUP

BATHINDA: To celebrate International Day of Yoga, a seven-day yoga camp organised by Central University of Punjab concluded here on Friday.

To celebrate International Day of Yoga, a seven-day yoga camp organised by Central University of Punjab concluded here on Friday.

Officials, teachers and students of the university participated in the camp with zest and zeal.

On the occasion, Gagandeep, sports officer of the university, apprised the participants of the benefits of yoga. He also demonstrated asanas (physical postures) helpful in curing various diseases such as obesity, diabetes and depression.

On the concluding day, the participants practised various asanas, including tadasana, veerbhadra asana, vajrasana, ardha chakrasana, ardha halasana, shavasana, ardh pawanmuktasana, pawanmuktasana and bhujangasana.

Vice-Chancellor RK Kohli threw light on how International Day of Yoga came into existence in the world.

Talking about the importance of yoga for a healthy and sound life, Registrar Jagdeep Singh said yoga classes would remain continue for the new students.

VK Garg, Dean, Students Welfare; KP Singh Mundra, Controller of Examinations; and Dr Tarun Arora, Associate Dean, Students Welfare, were present on the occasion.

The sports department of the university organised a yoga competition on the concluding day of the camp in which Pawan Poonia, Ritu Kamboj and Naseer Ahmed were the winners.

The winners of various activities such as debate, declamation contest, seminar, open discussion and poster presentation were also honoured.
