DS Group to expand product portfolio

CHANDIGARH: Dharampal Satyapal Group (DS Group) — makers of Catch brand of spices — is in an expansion mode. Besides expanding production facilities, the company will expanding its product portfolio.

Dharampal Satyapal Group (DS Group) — makers of Catch brand of spices — is in an expansion mode. Besides expanding production facilities, the company will expanding its product portfolio.

The Rs 6,500-crore group will infuse more capital and undertake R&D to expand from the conventional spices to exotic spices. The spice vertical of the company — DS Spiceco — will also expand its distribution network in eastern states.

OP Khanduja, business head, DS Spiceco, today said the company clocked a turnover of Rs 400 crore in 2014-15 fiscal. “With the expansion of product portfolio and distribution network, we hope to achieve a growth of over 30% this year,” he said.

Khanduja said they are looking at building production capacity at the company’s own spider plant at Noida this year besides increasing production at the three outsourced plants for straight and premium straight spices at Kundli, Erode and Nagor. 

“We are looking at expanding our distribution network in East India. As part of our strategy to increase penetration of organised spices in the price-sensitive consumer category, we plan to launch most of the spices in sachets of Rs 5. We are also building a separate vertical for distribution of these sachets, which will cater only to the price-sensitive consumers,” he said.
