Chandigarh, October 17

A 40-year-old resident of Jind in Haryana walked free in a drug case after the prosecution failed to prove allegations in the court.

According to the prosecution, an FIR was registered under Section 20 of the NDPS Act against Surinder, a resident of Amirgarh village in the Narwana area of Jind district, on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Sudarshan Singh at the IT Park police station on October 12, 2017.

As per the FIR, police officials were on patrol duty in the IT Park area. As they reached railway crossing near Indira Colony around 5:35pm, they saw a man coming from the opposite direction and he was carrying a black polythene bag.

On seeing the police, he turned and started walking fast. On getting suspicious of his activity, the police officials stopped him and during search, they recovered two-kg ‘ganja’ from his bag.

On being asked, he revealed his name as Surinder alias Chhinda, a resident of Indira Colony, Mani Majra, and a permanent resident of Amirgarh village in Jind, Haryana. As he could not produce any licence or permit to carry the narcotics, he was arrested. Pointing contradictions in the statements of police officials, defence counsel Raj Kishore said Surinder was falsely implicated in the case. After hearing the arguments, the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Vijay Singh acquitted Surinder of the charges levelled against him. — TNS
