Amitabh wins gold in powerlifting

Chandigarh, August 12

Haryana’s Amitabh Singh Chandel became the first athlete to win a gold medal for India in the Singapore Powerlifting Championship in Singapore today.

Amitabh lifted the maximum weight in all three events — squat, bench press and dead lift in the master’s category — for an aggregate of 320 kg. 

Hundred athletes from nine countries were part of the two-day championship, organised by the GLOBAL Power Alliance in Singapore.
