DERA BASSI:Even as sales picked up slowly this festival season, Dhanteras cheered up owners of utensil shops, automobile showrooms and electronics stores across the town today.

Dera Bassi, October 17

Even as sales picked up slowly this festival season, Dhanteras cheered up owners of utensil shops, automobile showrooms and electronics stores across the town today.

Considered as auspicious for purchase of steel and gold items, Dhanteras saw the markets abuzz with activity since morning. Most shopkeepers, who had displayed a variety of products by extending counters, said their sales were at least 15 per cent up today than the previous year.

Pardeep Sheoran, general manager of Tricity Autos, Maruti Suzuki, Zirakpur, said the sales at his showroom jumped 15 per cent when compared with that of a year before. He said buyers went for new Swift Dzire and Brezza models. He added, “At least 40 buyers had made advanced booking and wanted delivery specifically today.”

Harvinder Singh, GM at Satkar Honda, said, “The sales were much better than our expectations. We sold around 35 bikes till this evening.”

Similarly, majority of utensil traders in Dera Bassi claimed more than 10 per cent rise in sales compared with Dhanteras last year. The number of customers for electronics like pop-up toasters, rice cookers and induction plates too saw a quantum jump. — OC
