Following directions of the High Court, the old car bazar, being held at the Madhya Marg, Sector 7, for more than 35 years, will be shifted to a new site in Hallo Majra from tomorrow.

Gulson Kumar, president, Car Bazar Association, said they would be operating the car bazar from a new site in Hallo Majra because they had been left with the no choice after the High Court order.

He said car dealers had suffered huge losses in the past six months after they were barred from holding the car bazaar at Sector 7 where they been working for the past 35 years.

Dealers had proposed five other sites for their business during the Punjab and Haryana High Court hearing, but the administration had turned them down. The decision to shift the bazar was taken on the direction of the High Court on the petition by showroom owners who submitted a plea that the car bazar was held every Sunday in the parking space near their showrooms which was adversely affecting their business. Later, the MC had identified the site at the Hallo Majra. The dealers had operated the bazar at Hallo Majra in March on trial basis, but rejected the site due to lack of facilities.  Gulson Kumar said they would raise the issue of the basic amenities at the new sites after holding the car bazaar.

Dealers said the place lacks basic facilities such as water and electricity and also had safety issues. Car dealer Suresh Kumar said the site was unsafe in the absence of the proper arrangements. He said most of their transaction was in cash and carrying a big amount to and from the new site was risky. The MC has earmarked 50 sites at Hallo Majra for around 502 cars.
