Chandigarh: A two-and-a-half-year-old child drowned in a pit dug up at an under-construction house in Aerocity here on Sunday night.



Zirakpur: A two-and-a-half-year-old child drowned in a pit dug up at an under-construction house in Aerocity here on Sunday night. The pit was dug up in the house to store water for construction work, the police said. The deceased has been identified as Minakshi. The child was playing near the pit and suddenly fell into it.  She was pulled out after 10 minutes and taken to the GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh, where doctors declared her brought dead, said the police. Zirakpur SHO Gurjit Singh said the girl was playing near the pit when the incident took place. He said her father refused to lodge a complaint and no case was registered. OC

Infosys XI log easy victory 

Chandigarh:  Infosys XI logged a 72-run win against MC Chandigarh in the Tricity Premier League, organised by Chandigarh Police, on Monday. Batting first, Infosys posted 161/6 in 20 overs. Abinav Mittal (45) was the main scorer for the side, while Vicky (36) and Vikas (28) also contributed in the total. Sachin and Amandeep claimed two wickets each for the bowling side. In reply,MC bundled out on 89 runs in 18 overs. Sonu (31) and Sachin (10) were the only two scorers for the side. Pardeep took a five-wicket haul. TNS

4 referees attended seminar 

Chandigarh:  Four local referees participated in the national taekwondo seminar held in New Delhi from April 18 to 21. Four referees-- Yamini Gupta (international referee) and national referees Harjot Kaur, Vishal Kumar and Vishal Mahar attended the event. Yamini and Vishal were adjudged best performers. TNS
