Climate change a global threat, says MCM DAV principal

CHANDIGARH: To show respect for the Mother Earth and sensitise the young generation about the importance of caring for the planet, the MCM DAV College for Women organised a havan here today.

To show respect for the Mother Earth and sensitise the young generation about the importance of caring for the planet, the MCM DAV College for Women organised a havan here today.

Organised under the aegis of the Swachhata Committee (Arts) and the Sanskrit Department, the havan witnessed enthusiastic participation of the staff and students.

With chanting of hymns, students invoked the Almighty to heal the planet. A plantation drive was also carried out on the occasion as a reaffirmation of MCM’s commitment to work for a better environment.

Informative posters depicting ways to save the Earth and create a sustainable future were displayed by students. College Principal Nisha Bhargava impressed upon the students the importance of Earth Day as “climate change is becoming an increasing global threat.” She urged them to show love for the planet by taking measures to prevent global warming, avoiding environmental destruction and supporting green initiatives.

Bhargava also motivated the students to study with focus determination and bring laurels to the college in the upcoming university exams.

Earth Day at DAV-15

Chandigarh: World Earth Day was celebrated for two days by NSS volunteers of the DAV School, Sector 15. Principal Anuja Sharma motivated the children to take care of Mother Earth. She, along with the staff and students, took a pledge in the morning assembly to take care of the planet. A plethora of competitions were conducted for all classes. Children participated with zeal and enthusiasm in poster-making, slogan-writing, poetry-recitation and essay-writing competition. Students apprised everyone of the importance of World Earth Day through articles, speeches and poems in the morning assembly. A special havan was conducted. TNS
