Kharar: Two occupants of a car had a narrow escape when the vehicle suddenly caught fire while coming towards Mullanpur from the Chandigarh side late on Sunday night.



Kharar: Two occupants of a car had a narrow escape when the vehicle suddenly caught fire while coming towards  Mullanpur from the Chandigarh side late on Sunday night. The mishap took place when they reached near the Mullanpur barrier. Both persons managed to come out of the car, which was reduced to ashes. Mullanpur Garibdass SHO Rajesh Hastir visited the spot. A fire engine was called from Chandigarh. OC

Man jumps before train, dies

Dera Bassi: An unidentified man, believed to be in his mid-50s,  reportedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a train on the Ambala-Kalka railway track near here on Monday. According to GRP sources, they got information that a man had committed suicide. The police reached the spot and took the body into their custody. No suicide note was recovered from the spot. OC

iPhone stolen from café 

Chandigarh: An iPhone was stolen from Purple Frog Café in Sector 26. According to the police, the complainant, a resident of Sector 17, Panchkula, had visited the café on December 15 when her phone got stolen. A case in this connection has been registered at the Sector 26 police station. TNS

Alloy wheels of SUV missing

Chandigarh: Unknown persons stole the alloy wheels of a Scorpio from Sector 63 here on the intervening night of December 15 and 16. According to the police, the complainant, Robin Singh, alleged that he had parked his SUV near his house when the theft took place. A case has been registered in this connection at the Sector 49 police station. TNS

Thieves flee with diamond ring

Chandigarh: A diamond ring was stolen from a house in Sector 11 here. According to the police, the complainant, PS Pruthi, reported that some unknown person stole the ring from his house on December 14. A case has been registered at the Sector 11 police station. TNS

130 encroachers challaned

Chandigarh: The enforcement wing of the MC on Tuesday conducted a special anti-encroachment drive in Sectors 19, 22, 23 and 40. During the drive, officials of the enforcement wing removed encroachments and items illegally kept in verandahs. A total of 130 challans were issued  to violators. TNS

Trees cut for billboard

Chandigarh: Railway authorities on Monday marked an inquiry into the incident in which several trees were cut for installing an advertisement board at the entrance of the Chandigarh railway station. Daria village residents on Tuesday sought the arrest of the station director and raised slogans outside his office. Villagers said they saw in the morning that the trees were being cut. They saw big holes on the sides of the road near the station. TNS
