Couple bags top honours in most categories

CHANDIGARH: Educationist Sanjay Thareja and his wife Dr Rajni Thareja won the top honours in most of the chrysanthemum categories ahead of the Chrysanthemum Show, which will kick off on Friday at Terraced Garden, Sector 33.

Educationist Sanjay Thareja and his wife Dr Rajni Thareja won the top honours in most of the chrysanthemum categories ahead of the Chrysanthemum Show, which will kick off on Friday at Terraced Garden, Sector 33.

“Gardening is our hobby which drives us to take part in flower competitions held in the city. We won the ‘King of the show’ award last year as well. We have also been winning at such award festivals organised in Panchkula,” Sanjay told Chandigarh Tribune.

MC Executive Engineer (Horticulture wing) Krishan Pal Singh, said: “The competition is organised every year to encourage those who have keen interest in horticulture. This also promotes love for plants and greenery. Winners will be given away awards on December 10 by MC Commissioner Jitender Yadav.”

In artistic arrangements (amateurs), Sector 20, Panchkula, resident Sanjay Thareja claimed the top honours. His wife Dr Rajni Thareja was right behind getting the second place while Dr SS Bhamra was declared the third winner.

In the incurved chrysanthemum category, Dr Rajni Thareja and Ram Lakhan, a resident of Sector 16, Panchkula, stood first and second, respectively. Here, Sanjay had to settle for the third position.

While in incurving chrysanthemum, Sanjay, Rekha Tayal, a resident of Sector 8, Panchkula, and Dr SS Bhamra, a resident of Sector 16, Chandigarh, stood first, second and third, respectively.

AK Sharma and Manish Kumar, residents of Sector 8, here, bagged the top honours in the reflexed chrysanthemum section. Sunita Gupta and Shiv Parshad Morya of Sector 18, here, got the second spot.

Krishan Kumar of Sector 8 bagged the third position.

In Spider chrysanthemum category, Sanjay; in Anemone chrysanthemum AK Sharma and Manish Kumar; in Korean chrysanthemum, Sanjay; in pompon chrysanthemum, Dr Rajni Thareja; in button chrysanthemum, Dr SS Bhamra; in spoon chrysanthemum, Bhavna Sobat; and in decorative chrysanthemum, Manmohan Kaur and Ram Kishore Mali, claimed the top positions.

While in artistic arrangements (institutions), Director, CSIO, Sector 30; Director, PGI; and Chandigarh Housing Board, 8 Jan Marg, Sector 9; were declared the first, second and third winners, respectively.

Meanwhile, local MP Kirron Kher will inaugurate the Chrysanthemum Show at the Terraced Garden, Sector 33, at 11am tomorrow while Rajesh Gupta, Senior Deputy Mayor, MC, will be the guest of honour for the event.
