Chandigarh, April 16

A local court has dismissed the bail plea of Sushila, the latest arrest in the HCS Judicial paper leak scam. Sushila was arrested in January and is a beneficiary in the case.

It was argued in the bail application that the police had filed the supplementary challan as well and the investigation is complete and no recovery is to be made. Thus, there is no purpose of keeping her in jail any more while assuring that she would cooperate with the police in further proceedings, if granted bail.

Three persons, including former registrar (recruitment), Punjab and Haryana High Court, Balwinder Sharma and two beneficiaries Sunita and Sushila — were booked by the police in the high-profile case. A High Court committee looking into the case had recommended scrapping of the examination after prima facie finding that some candidates had access to the question paper.

The committee had said at least two candidates, Sunita and Sushila, had the question paper. The committee had also stated that Balwinder Sharma unequivocally denied prior acquaintance with Sunita, the general category topper. Call details furnished by the service provider, on the other hand, revealed that 760 calls and SMSes were exchanged between Sharma and Sunita over the past one year.
