Patiala, July 9

Yoginder Singh Yogi, Senior Deputy Mayor, Patiala Municipal Corporation (MC), on Monday sent a written complaint to MC Commissioner on a matter involving construction of an unapproved colony at Manjit Nagar in the city.

The Senior Deputy Mayor had yesterday brought the matter to the fore.

He said an illegal colony was being raised by some colonisers without seeking proper permission from the authority concerned. This was in violation of the norms of the MC.

“I received complaints regarding sale of plots to innocent buyers in the area, who will be later left with no choice, but to go from pillar to post to get their plots registered,” he said.

He said he had submitted a written complaint to the Commissioner regarding the matter.

Kumar Amit, Deputy Commissioner, said: “We are looking into the matter. Joint Commissioner Ankur Mahendru had earlier visited the area and got the work stopped. Now another team from the office has visited the spot and the work has again been stopped. We will get the land records verified and appropriate action will be taken against the colonisers.”

It is to be noted that Senior Deputy Mayor Yoginder Singh Yogi visited the site on Sunday. He said sewerage pipes were being laid illegally on the farmland without permission, while residential plots were being sold at Rs 17,000 per square yard.
