Chandigarh, October 20

The  restrictions on the bursting of crackers  failed to dampen the  spirit  of residents  who thronged the stalls to buy firecrackers on Diwali. A huge rush was witnessed at all designated places where the Administration  has allowed the sale of the crackers.

One of the  traders who  put up a stall at the Masjid ground in Sector 20 said it was a good time  for them as they sold all of their stock.

Sumit, a resident of Sector  21,  said the move of reducing the  number of stalls  had caused inconvenience to people as there was  a rush  at various stalls. He said he had to stand in a queue to buy  the crackers  as there was  a huge  rush at all stalls. The Administration  allowed only  96 persons  to sell the crackers  against the 482  numbers of last year.

Meanwhile, traders   were also  unhappy with the  GST imposed on the crackers. Chirag  Agarwal,  president of the crackers  association,  said all traders  had  a brisk business.
