Dhairya eases into semifinals

MOHALI: Top seed Dhairya Chadha lived up to his billing as he beat Jashandeep Singh in straight sets to seal a spot in the boys’ U-16 semifinals in the Roots-AITA (TS-7) National Ranking Championship here on Wednesday. Chadha won 7-6(2) 6-2.

Top seed Dhairya Chadha lived up to his billing as he beat Jashandeep Singh in straight sets to seal a spot in the boys’ U-16 semifinals in the Roots-AITA (TS-7) National Ranking Championship here on Wednesday. Chadha won 7-6(2) 6-2. 

Umang Singh Cogi registered a 6-0 6-4 win over Kanwar Preet Singh, while second seed Rijul Bhatia rallied from a set down to beat Uday Singh Batra in the quarterfinals. Bhatia lost the opening set 4-6, but came back strongly to win the 8nets two sets 6-0 7-6(5) to stay in contention for a place in the final.  

Gurpuneet Singh also survived a scare before he overcame a resilient Kartik Sunil to move into the semifinals. Gurpuneet won the opening set 6-4, but went down 1-6 in the next. He though held his nerve to seal the decider 7-6(9).

Sanidhya stuns Simardeep

In the boys’ U-12 quarterfinals, Sanidhya Dhar came from behind to stun top seed Simardeep Singh. Dhar lost the first 6-7(4), but clawed his way back into the match with a 6-0 win in the second set. He then survived 7-6(7) in the decider to ensure a place in the last four.    

Divyam Sharma had an easy outing against Advit Tiwari as he registered a 6-0 6-1 win seal a spot in the semifinals. Ankit Kumar dismissed Shorya Jishtu 6-1 6-1, while Siddharth Mohan overcame Pragun Thakur 7-6(5) 7-6(6) in the quarterfinals.

Vanya moves ahead 

Top seed Vanya Arora blanked Ayushi Prajapat 4-0 4-0 to move into the girls’ U-16 semifinals 

Second seed Joytsana Yadav humbled Shriya 5-3 4-2, while Omisha edged out Ankita Kumari 4-0 4-2. Sargun Singh registered a 4-1 4-2 win over Tanvi Kohli in the quarterfinal. 

Sidhak in semis

In the girls’ U-12 competition, top seed Sidhak Kaur moved into the semifinals after beating Shrawasti 4-2 3-5 4-1. 

Second seed Ajenika Puri drubbed Akshdha Sharma 4-2 4-2, while Ankita downed Inaaya Mittal 4-2 5-3. Diya Chaudhary packed off Hitanshi Sardana to secure a place in the semis. Diya won 4-0 4-1. 

Dhairya-Kaartik advance

In the boys’ U-16 doubles quarterfinals, top seed pair of Dhairya and Kaartik defeated Daksh and Umang 6-2 6-1, while Divyam Sharma and Shorya Jistu registered a 6-4 6-2 win over Mohit and Ish Kumar. 

Kanwarpreet Singh and Arpit Dhull beat Uday and Simar 7-6(2) 6-2 and Sanidhya and Ankit humbled Anshu and Satvik 6-1 7-5.
