The two-day Tribune Edu Expo-2018 concluded on Sunday with a lot of queries from parents and children about studying abroad.

Career counsellor Usha Albuquerque said she had been getting queries from students who were studying science but wanted to shift to humanities. “They are asking if psychology is a safe option. There are a lot of queries from students who want to go abroad not only for study but also to settle down there,” she said.

She said: “The future belongs to artificial intelligence and robotics. So, jobs will be left in humanities.”

A number of private institutions had put up their stalls at the expo. Rupesh Rai, AGM, Chitkara University (Rajpura and Baddi campuses), said they received several queries regarding engineering and design. However, Shoolini University, Solan, claimed that the queries to them were more about humanities. “Class X students were asking about which courses they should prefer,” said Shivendra Gupta, Business Analyst, Shoolini University.

“Science doesn’t mean that you have to go for only engineering. There is nuclear physics, oceanography, too, which one could choose. One can also pursue engineering with 70 per cent marks and excel in his field,” said Albuquerque.
