First-time voters seek employment

The Tribune analysed mood of the first-time voters and their priorities ahead of the 2019 General Election scheduled in the UT on May 19.

For them unemployment has been a matter of concern and should be addressed before other issues. 

Politically charged issues, including Rafale controversy, abrogation of Article 370 and Ram Mandir does not make any sense.

Where are the jobs? 

Sunny (18), who has been pursuing engineering from GGS Polytechnic, Kharar, asserted that a large number of youngsters were not getting jobs. 

He considered schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana as a good move. 

He said, “An individual’s capability also matters to get an employment. The government shouldn’t be held responsible if anyone fails to get a job.”

Demonetisation impact

Harinder Singh (19), while waiting for a bus at Bus Stand, Sector 17, said demonetisation was a bold step as it checked flow of black money in the system.

However, 20-year-old Abhishek Kumar wasn’t much impressed with Harinder’s thought. 

Not impressed with rechristening spree

Maulik Mittal, another first-time voter didn’t admire the Central Government’s rechristening spree. In last five years, the PM Modi-led government has renamed a number of cities, roads and railway stations. The government should have focus on key issues, including infrastructure and employment generation, he said. 

Women security 

First-time women voters were concerned about their security. Deevanshi Dhiman, 21, who has been pursuing graduation at Panjab University, said women safety was a big issue but only after jobs.
