A city-based cloth shop owner had to face a trial for eight months for flouting the Diwali cracker ban. He violated the Administrator’s order and was booked for bursting crackers after the stipulated time. Today, he was punished by a court and made to stand till the rising of the court and was also fined Rs 1,000.

Sector 22 resident Rahul (31) was booked by the police on the night of October 19, 2017.

According to the FIR, he was seen bursting crackers outside his residence at 10.20 pm. This was a violation of Section 188 of the IPC and the police booked him. At that time, the High Court had passed an order that crackers could be burst only between 6.30 pm and 9.30 pm.

Rahul burst crackers in the presence of a police party that was patrolling the area. However, Rahul pleaded ignorance saying that he was unaware of the order. While he was released on bail on the spot, he had to face a trial in the case, which was decided today.

Speaking to Chandigarh Tribune, Rahul said, “I’m relieved that I will not have to come to the court again.”
