Mohali, November 29

The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) claimed to have nabbed a close aide of gangster Sukhpreet Singh Budda, who helped him in collecting extortion money, from Lalru here yesterday.

The arrested suspect has been identified as Vishal Wadhwa, alias Laala (26), a resident of Jai Mata Colony, Lalru. The CIA has also recovered Rs 1 lakh cash from the suspect. He was produced in the local court today, which remanded him in police custody till Monday.

According to the police, Laala used to collect extortion money for Budda. A police team led by ASI Gurpartap Singh arrested him yesterday. There is a case registered against him under Section 307 in the Lalru police station. Laala has a close link with Gaurav Patial, alias Lucky, who was a suspect, along with Budda, in a case in which Punjabi singer Parmish Verma was allegedly shot, the police said.

The police said during interrogation, Budda had revealed the name of Laala.

Budda was produced in the Mohali court on November 23 in a case registered against him for attacking Punjabi singer-actor Parmish Verma and for threatening other singers. Around 20 cases, including murder, attempt to murder and extortion, were registered against Budda in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. — TNS
