Meek surrender 

This refers to the news report “MC U-turn on penalising parking firm” (Chandigarh Tribune, June 24). It is frustrating to learn that the Municipal Corporation (MC) has now proposed to waive penalties imposed on Arya Toll Infra for overcharging and haphazard parking at various paid facilities in the city. One fails to comprehend the rationale behind the latest move of the MC, which could at best be described as ‘meek surrender’ before this parking firm, which as of now, seems to be calling the shots. How can the MC justify visibly ‘self-defeating’ step as it is currently beset with the problem of near empty coffers?  It appears that the MC is ‘watching’ the interest of this firm. The entire gamut of parking rates fixation and relaxation of penalty ought to be investigated by an independent Central agency to clear the air.

Water tariff crisis

We live in Mohali, but feel that the administration is giving step-motherly treatment to us. Water tariff in Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) administered sectors is five times higher than others in the town. What is our fault? Why do we have to pay extra? The matter has been raised in the print media a number of times, but those in power have turned a blind eye towards the issue. Wasteful and frivolous expenses should be curtailed and water tariff should be brought at par with other areas in the city.

Install HD CCTVs

This refers to the news report “Sector 63 residents playing crime-safe” (Chandigarh Tribune, June 24). It is good that the Sector 63 Welfare Association is bringing all flats and roads in its locality under high definition (HD) night vision CCTV camera surveillance. It will help in detecting thefts in the area and also keep thieves and anti-social elements away. Last month, thieves stole battery of our neighbour’s car in Sector 46-C in broad daylight. Thieves are still at large despite police visiting the locality and registering an FIR. Let us all save ourselves from thieves by installing HD CCTV cameras at our own expenses.
