Chandigarh, October 16

A 27-year-old city resident was acquitted after the prosecution failed to prove the charge that he was found in possession of heroin.

Tarun Bakshi, a resident of Sector 47, was accused of carrying 13 grams of heroin and arrested for the same last year. However, the police failed to prove the evidence and Bakshi was acquitted.

As per the FIR, on April 14 last year, the police had set up a naka in Sector 47 to check crimes, like snatching and theft. At around 12:45 pm, the police saw a Swift car approaching the naka at a fast speed. However, it suddenly stopped and tried to take a right turn.

As per the FIR, the car crashed into an electricity pole and stopped.

As per the police, Bakshi got down from the car and allegedly tried to throw away a polybag which he took out from his right pocket. On checking, the police found a whitish-brown powder in it. The police realised that it was heroin and asked Bakshi if he had a licence to carry it, which he allegedly declined. He was thus booked under Section 21 of the Narcotic, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
