An unidentified man was killed after being hit by a train on the Ambala-Kalka railway line here today.

Rajinder Singh Dhillon, ASI, Government Railway Police, said they had got information around 6.45 am that a body was lying near the railway track. A team was rushed to the spot and the body was taken into possession.

The ASI added that the victim had an injury on his head and one of his legs and an arm were severed by the wheels of train. However, no suicide note was recovered from the spot.

GRP sources said the deceased was believed to be in his mid-40s and was suspected to be killed while crossing the railway line.

The body has been kept in the mortuary at the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, for identification, the GRP sources said.

An inquest proceeding has been initiated into the matter.
