Mohali, May 28
To check the depleting the water table, rainwater harvesting systems would be installed at 100 government schools in Mohali villages.
Deputy Commissioner Gurpreet Kaur Sapra stated this during a meeting of the District Ground Water Regulation Advisory Committee here on Monday.
Sapra said the level of groundwater was falling at an average of five feet a year and effective steps were required to be taken to check it.
She added that for the purpose, water discharged by sewerage treatment plants (STPs) would be used for watering parks and roadside saplings. The DC directed officials concerned to ensure the implementation of the order and submit a report in this regard.
