Mohali, August 29

The Mohali-Kharar and Zirakpur-Dera Bassi highways need to have foot overbridges and elevated roads at certain points for decongestion of traffic flow and accidents on the stretches.

“These remedial measures have been discussed in our meetings and now we have shot a communique to the Secretary, PWD, Punjab,” said Mohali Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan, here today.

Suggesting the urgent remedial action required in Mohali district, the DC said there were two places where elevated roads were needed. “The first elevated road needs to be constructed on the Zirakpur-Dera Bassi stretch, starting from the Ghaggar (towards Zirakpur) till the Zirakpur flyover. The second one need to be constructed from the Airport-Zirakpur light point to the Rajpura road at Chhat junction,” said the DC.

As per Dayalan, the foot overbridges need to be constructed at Baltana chowk and VIP Road. All unauthorised openings on the highways are needed to be plugged with immediate effect. The DC said the carriageway along the Zirakpur-Dera Bassi highway was also needed to be sealed with railings to avoid any unauthorised entry on the stretch. — TNS
