Probe panel indicts 5 Shivalikview officials

CHANDIGARH:A two-member inquiry committee formed to investigate lapses on the part of officials in a case where two guests stayed at Hotel Shivalikview for five months without paying bills has submitted its report to the CITCO authorities today.

Chandigarh, November 13

A two-member inquiry committee formed to investigate lapses on the part of officials in a case where two guests stayed at Hotel Shivalikview for five months without paying bills has submitted its report to the CITCO authorities today.

Sources said the committee indicted five front desk officials for the lapses and recommended disciplinary action against them.

The officials indicted include a former DGM, the front desk officer and three others posted at the reception.

The inquiry was ordered after two guests, Ashwani Kumar Chopra and Ramnik Bansal, stayed in the hotel for more than five months without paying the bills of Rs 22 lakh.

The lapse on the part of the hotel employees stunned the management, which terminated the services of DGM Sudhir Chawla and withheld the salaries of some other employees.  After reporting the matter to the police, the CITCO authorities had also detained an Audi and a Chevrolet Cruze belonging to the guests.

Sources said the inquiry found that standard operating procedures were not followed in this case and the front desk staff did not close the account for long. The report stated that both Bansal and Chopra knew each other and used to visit each other’s rooms in the hotel. — TNS
