At PU, experts discuss potential of corporate social responsibility

CHANDIGARH: The Department of Life Long Learning & Extension (DLLL&E), PU, organised a training programme for students on ‘Potential of Corporate Responsibility: Students as Users and Beneficiaries’ here on Wednesday.

The Department of Life Long Learning & Extension (DLLL&E), PU, organised a training programme for students on ‘Potential of Corporate Responsibility: Students as Users and Beneficiaries’ here on Wednesday.

University Finance and Development Officer Vikram Nayyar said the corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a form of self-regulation integrated into a business model.

He motivated the faculty present to prepare relevant projects for companies and advocated for strong industry- university partnership.

Dr Ajaib Singh, Former Director & Head, DLLL&E, advised the department to adopt communities in villages and slums.

Prof Karamjeet Singh, Registrar, PU, highlighted that it is in the DNA of every Indian to engage in philanthropy.

“Sharing with have-nots does not hamper one’s own prosperity,” he said, quoting the traditions of ‘langar’ and ‘daswand’.

Dr Bharat of UILS laid emphasis on the segregation of dry and wet waste as the first step towards the CSR activity for students and advised them to reform the community to perform better.

Prabhdip Brar, Chairperson of the University Institute of Fashion Technology, motivated the students to adopt reduce, reuse and recycle, while Dr Gaurav Gaur, Centre for Social Work, enlisted various activities that students have already already undertaken for the community.

Students prepared a project on various thematic areas such as sanitation, education, coaching, vocational skill impartation, gender equality and women empowerment.
