Chandigarh, May 21

A co-accused in the sensational Akansh Sen murder case, Harmehtab Singh (37), alias Farid, today moved an application for regular bail in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Rajeev Goyal here.

The defence counsel argued that the accused had already been in jail for over two years and the prosecution had presented a challan in the case.

The court had dismissed his previous plea on November 7, 2017. Following this, another bail petition was moved in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which was dismissed as withdrawn on April 17, 2018.

After hearing the arguments, the court has adjourned the matter for May 24.

Meanwhile, a forensic expert today recorded her statement before the court. She stated that several words were inserted between the lines in documents.

A case under Sections 302 (murder) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC was registered against Harmehtab and prime accused Balraj Singh Randhawa, who was declared proclaimed offender.

Akansh Sen (28) was the nephew of former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, while Harmehtab is grandson of Gian Singh Rarewala, former Chief Minister of erstwhile Pepsu state.

According to the prosecution, Balraj, a resident of Sector 77, Sohana, and Harmehtab of Rarewala Farm, Landra, Mohali, entered into an altercation with Akansh Sen on February 9, 2017. After the altercation, Balraj and Harmehtab sat in a BMW car and ran Akansh over thrice.

It was stated that Balraj was behind the wheel while co-accused Harmehtab was sitting on the front passenger’s seat.

Akansh Sen was the co-owner of Boom Box Cafe in Sector 9 here. Akansh succumbed to head injuries at the PGIMER on February 10.

Harmehtab was arrested on February 16 and he has been in jail since then. — TNS
