Now, no one can stop you from parking your vehicles on the premises of institutional buildings situated on Dakshin Marg and Madhya Marg, if parking space is available there.

Deputy Commissioner Mandeep Singh Brar has issued directions in this regard to the departments functioning from these buildings. In the order pasted on the building premises, the SDMs have stated that in compliance with the interim order passed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the Deputy Commissioner has ordered that authorities at all institutional buildings along Madhya Marg and Dakshin Marg should make sure that the parking space within such buildings is fully utilised with no parking taking place outside the buildings. However the order will not be applicable to the buildings that house Defence institutions, CBI, IB or other sensitive institutions.

In the recent order, the High Court has mentioned that enforcement of bylaws in such institutional buildings falls within the jurisdiction of the Deputy Commissioner-cum-Estate Officer, Chandigarh, and the DC is directed to immediately make sure, starting from all institutional buildings along Madhya Marg and Dakshin Marg, that parking space within such building is fully utilised, with no parking taking place outside the buildings. At buildings other than those housing Defence institutions or the CBI/IB, nobody is stopped from entering the building to park their vehicles to the extent of the parking capacity of such buildings, says the order.

The SSP, Traffic and Security, UT, Chandigarh, was directed to make sure that all necessary manpower is given to the Deputy Commissioner (who otherwise, of course, is also the District Magistrate, UT, Chandigarh), to make sure that no person in such buildings stops parking of vehicles of those who have necessarily come to the building, (other than buildings housing “sensitive institutions”).
