Chandigarh, November 14

In the case relating to the death of 19-year-old SD College student Tanishq Bhasin, the Panchkula police have finally traced the owner of the German-made sophisticated weapon, which was used in the crime. The owner is a former sarpanch of a village in Fatehgarh Sahib district.

The police questioned the owner, who disclosed that the weapon belonged to his brother, who was settled abroad. The weapon was very old and therefore on September 6, 2016, he deposited it at the Khamano police station in Fatehgarh Sahib district, he told the police.

On September 28, 2016, the former sarpanch had submitted a complaint in the same police station that after the weapon was released to him, he lost it. The police had lodged a case in connection with the lost weapon.

Panchkula Police Commissioner AS Chawla said now they were checking how this weapon, which was lost in Khamano, reached Tanishq.

The body of Sector 4 resident Tanishq Bhasin was found in his car with a bullet injury on his forehead on the Panchkula-Morni road on the morning of November 9.

Case registered under Arms Act

The Panchkula police on Tuesday registered a case under the Arms Act at the Chandimandir police station. Tanishq’s family had submitted a complaint demanded that the owner of weapon used in the crime should be traced.

Tanishq searched for weapons on mobile

During an examination of Tanishq’s mobile phone at a cyber lab, the police learnt that Tanishq had searched for information on weapons around 10 pm on November 8 night.

Role of Punjab police under scanner

Sources said the Panchkula police were also probing the role of police officials of Fatehgarh Sahib district in connection with the weapon. A cop, who was recently acquitted, is under the scanner of Panchkula police, one of the investigating officials said.
