Panchkula, July 9

The Municipal Corporation (MC), Panchkula, has started the process to build state-of-the-art community centres in the city.

The Municipal Corporation has decided to demolish old community centres and in their places new centres with modern facilities will come up.

Municipal Commissioner-cum-Administrator Rajesh Jogpal said not only they would provide the best facilities in these centres but also ensure their maintenance and cleanliness.

The MC has planned to float tenders for the maintenance of these centres. “The contractor will also provide the staff, who will provide security and ensure cleanliness,” Jogpal added.

At present, the community centres in Panchkula are in a dilapidated condition and the MC will improve their condition in a phased manner.

In the new centres, facilities like halls, modern washrooms, gyms and indoor games will be provided.

Welcoming the MC move, advocate Sameer Sethi, a resident of Sector 16, said the civic body should provide better facilities so that people did not book hotels and resorts for marriage functions and use community centres.
