A stretch of a road caved in today due to an overloaded truck, which was carrying gravel, in Phase IX here today.

The mishap caused around 2-ft deep pit at the corner stretch of the road. Residents said the rear wheel of the truck got trapped in the pit and a JCB machine had to be called in to pull the truck.

Dr Avtar Singh, a resident of Mohali, said the incident took place around 10 am.

“A loaded truck carrying gravel took a sharp turn at a corner. Suddenly the road caved in and the truck turned over on its side, causing some damage to the adjacent wall of a house,” said Dr Avtar.

Dr Avtar said a road had caved-in earlier also in the area. Despite repeated incidents and complaints, the Municipal Corporation had failed to repair the roads properly. The gravel from the truck fell on the boundary wall of a house causing some damage to its lawn.

SS Nagra, a former cop and owner of the house, said: “There is some construction going on in a nearby house, where the truck was headed. It is fortunate that no one was injured in the mishap.” — TNS
