Pre-monsoon showers hit the tricity this morning, bringing the much-needed respite for city residents from the scorching heat and humidity.

According to Surinder Paul, in-charge of the Chandigarh Met Department, 12 mm of rainfall was recorded till the afternoon while showers continued in the evening.

According to Paul, the days of scorching heat are over for the time being as the sky will remain cloudy and the monsoon is likely to hit the tricity within 48 to 72 hours.

Paul said the present scenario of rain would continue till the first week of July.

“The monsoon is on time and there appears to be no disturbance so far,” said Paul.

He said the rain led to a dip in the temperature. The maximum temperature recorded on Wednesday was 28.5°C, nine degrees below normal.
