Chandigarh, October 8

Panjab University Campus Students’ Council (PUCSC) led by its president Kanupriya protested outside the Vice-Chancellor’s office calling for transparency in hostel allotments.

While addressing the protesters Kanupriya said, “The PU authorities claim that being online its hostel allotment process is fair. But why don’t they upload details of seat allotment for the knowledge of students? All hostel allotments should be transparent. Illegal students should be expelled from the university.”

“We know some students have been allotted seats bypassing the waiting list. Some departments have disproportionately got more seats. Hostel seats should be allocated as per the proportion,” she added.

After the protest, office-bearers of the PUCSC were called for meeting. “The PU authorities have assured us that within a week’s time they will upload details about every hostel with names, department’s name and room number of each occupant for the public to see. If they don’t do it, we will protest again,” said Kanupriya.

Protest over fee hike

There was another protest at Dr HS Judge Institute of Dental Sciences and Hospital over fee hike notice for the second year students. The notice is for five per cent hike in fee. Kanupriya addressed students at the dental college.

“When we talked to chairperson, he said it was as per Syndicate’s direction. The fee for BDS and MDS is already high. Going by this rate, the fee would reach an enormous level,” she said. The Panjab University Students Union (PUSU) also submitted a memorandum in this regard to the authorities concerned.
