Rain leaves many places inundated

KHARAR:Heavy rain in the town and surrounding areas on Monday created problems for residents as rainwater accumulated at various places.

Kharar, September 24

Heavy rain in the town and surrounding areas on Monday created problems for residents as rainwater accumulated at various places. There was no area in the Kharar Municipal Council (MC) where people had no issues with rainwater.

The ongoing construction of the flyover from Desumajra to Khanpur led to traffic snarls. Drivers of vehicles faced difficulty while passing through water accumulated on the road teeming with big potholes. Despite various promises the administration has failed to improve condition of the stretch.

The road leading to Shivalik City was under two to three feet rainwater. Although residents had approached officials concerned, nothing happened at the ground level.

Shivalik Avenue, Aman Enclave, LIC Colony, various wards of the MC, Kapoor Chowk, Arya College road, Grain Market, railway underbridges on the Randhawa and Badala roads were the worst.

Residents are surprised that despite Khanpur Wali Naddi passing within the MC limits, the administration could not make use of the natural source to drain rainwater.

Meanwhile, the staff of the city police station covers records with polythene sheets to save it from the leaking roof during rain. Policemen abandon rooms as it becomes difficult for them to work due to rainwater leaking from the roof.

Surprisingly, such conditions have been prevailing for the past several years, but nothing has been done to renovate or construct a new building of the police station.
