Dr Harish Kumar, Additional Inspector General of Prisons, has submitted its report in the escape of undertrial Deepak Kumar from the General Hospital, Sector 6, Panchkula, from the police custody on June 17.

Sources revealed that in the report, submitted to KP Singh, Director-General of Police (Prisons), Vishal Chhibber, Deputy Superintendent (Prisons) (Administration), and Balwinder Singh, a doctor of the Ambala jail, were held responsible.

The inquiry was marked to inquire the role of Ambala jail staff in the prisoner’s escape.

DGP (Prisons) KP Singh has further submitted the report to Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Ram Niwas for further action.

Sources said the doctor had recommended the MRI of gangster Deepak Kumar and the Deputy Superintendent (Prisons) had approved the same.

The three armed men of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang had fired into the air, used pepper spray on the hospital staff and the police and freed gangster Deepak Kumar, who was brought from the Ambala jail to the Panchkula hospital for a medical examination on June 17.

The sources said the team that brought Deepak for MRI to the Panchkula hospital had to money for paying the fee of the tests.

The sources said Deepak was undergoing treatment in the dispensary inside the Ambala jail for pain in his knees. Recently, he was brought to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, Chandigarh, where doctors gave him a date for August 28.

However, as the regular doctor was on leave, the other doctor, who is a dentist, had recommended an emergency MRI test of Deepak Kumar for a knee complain, which was approved by the authorities. On June 17, he was brought to the Panchkula hospital for an MRI from where his gang members freed him from police custody.

The case

Report submitted for further action

DGP (Prisons) KP Singh has submitted the report to Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Ram Niwas for further action.

No pain on knees

A senior police official said the way Deepak ran from the police custody and jumped the hospital wall clearly shows that there was no pain in his knees.

Use of mobile inside the jail

There was a rampant use of mobile phone inside the Ambala jail. Deepak Kumar was in touch with other gang members Lawrence Bishnoi and Sampat Nehra through WhatsApp before the escape.

Satbir brought on production warrant 

Panchkula: In the prisoner’s escape case, the Panchkula police on Thursday brought Satbir on production warrant from the Ambala jail. Satbir was lodged in the same barrack with gangster Deepak Kumar, who escaped from the police custody on June 17. The police got Satbir’s six-day police remand on Thursday.
