CHANDIGARH:Simran Pritam rallied from a set down to beat Harnoor Sidhu in the girls’ U-16 semifinals at the STA-AITA Talent Series (TS-7) Tennis Tournament here on Wednesday.

Simran Pritam rallied from a set down to beat Harnoor Sidhu in the girls’ U-16 semifinals at the STA-AITA Talent Series (TS-7) Tennis Tournament here on Wednesday. 

Playing at the Chandigarh Club, Sector 1, Simran lost the opening set 3-6, but came back strongly to win the next two sets 6-3 6-3 to set up the title clash with  Pawandeep Kaur, who registered a 7-6(6) 6-2 in the other semifinal.

In the girls’ U-14 category, Sanchit Dabas packed off Bhumi Kakkar 6-1 6-3 to book a place in the final.

Ekamjeet, Aryan progress

Ekamjeet Singh, meanwhile, downed Atul Ajay 6-1 6-2 in the boys’ U-14 quarterfinals.

Gurpuneet Singh registered a 6-4 7-6(3) win over Haramrit Singh, while Aryan Aggarwal came from behind to overcome Arnav Bishnoi in a marathon three-setter. 

Aggarwal lost the opening set 3-6, but fought his way back into the match with a 7-6(7) win in the second set. He then seized the decider 6-4 to seal a place in the last four.  

Shraey Vir continued his impressive run with a 6-2 6-4 win over Harwin Munjal in the quarterfinals. 

In the boys’ U-16 quarterfinals, Lakshya Gupta dumped Uday Jyoti 6-1 6-1, while Aditya Chauhan humbled Avish Verma 6-3 6-1. Sarthak Gandhi ousted Arnav Bishnoi 6-0 6-1. 

Sukhpreet Jhojhe blanked Harmanjot Singh 6-0 6-0 to march into the semifinals.
