For the first time, the waste generated by you can become a source of income for you. In the draft bylaws for the solid waste management, the city Municipal Corporation (MC) has included a provision under which households can directly deposit or sell their recyclable dry waste to authorised agents or dealers of the MC at pre-notified rates.

A weighing scale and a counter will be provided at each recycling unit for this purpose. The authorised agents or dealers will be allowed to dispose of or sell the waste in the secondary market or recycling units in consonance with provisions of the solid waste management rules. The agents or dealers will be entitled to retain the proceeds realised thereof.

Manufacturers to help set up management system

All manufacturers of disposable products such as tin and glasses or brand owners, who introduce such products in the market within the jurisdiction of the MC, will provide necessary financial assistance to the civic body for the establishment of the waste management system.

In the draft bylaws, it has been made mandatory that all such brand owners, who sell or market their products in the packaging material that is non-biodegradable, will put in place a system to collect the waste generated due to their production.

Manufacturers, brand owners or marketing companies of sanitary napkins and diapers will explore the possibility of using all recyclable material in their products or they will provide a pouch or wrapper for the disposal of each napkin or diaper.
