Mohali, December 12

After the arrest of a former private bus conductor and a woman drug peddler with 345 gm of heroin (worth Rs 10.50 lakh), now the Special Task Force (STF) is bringing three jail inmates on production warrant to expose the drug racket running from inside the jail premises.

The STF will bring tomorrow the jail inmates, identified as Indu from Moga jail, Baldev Singh and Ramesh Kumar from Nabha jail on production warrant.

During the investigations, the STF had come to know that the arrested persons, Gurpreet Singh, former private bus conductor; and the woman accused, Sweety, were running their illegal activities at the behest of notorious drug smuggler Manoj Kumar, alias Mamu, who is at present lodged at the Ropar jail.

"Mamu, who had been arrested recently with two kg of heroin from the Kharar bus stand, was running his drug racket from the jail. On further investigation, the names of three other jail inmates, involved in the racket, came to surface. Now we are bringing the three on production warrants," said the STF official.

Notably, Baldev Singh is Sweety's husband.

The official added that Ramesh Kumar was instrumental in providing mobile phones and SIM cards to drug peddlers inside the jails. All of them were in touch through phones and making drug deals while remaining behind bars," said the official.

Indu was arrested with one-and-a-half kg of heroin by the police while Ramesh Kumar was nabbed with 750 gm of heroin, said the STF official.

The drug peddlers were procuring drugs from Delhi. "With their interrogation, several other links of them would be exposed," said the official.
