Patiala, November 29

My daughter had gone to the market to buy a traditional Punjabi suit for herself as she was fond of wearing new clothes, but she returned wrapped in white clothes, said an inconsolable father, Kuldeep Maggu.

Her 24-year-old daughter Jyotsana was killed on Wednesday night, when a speeding Scorpio car hit her scooty near Sirhindi Gate area on Patiala-Rajpura road.

She was a tutor at an ILETS coaching centre. She was riding pillion with her brother at the time of the accident.

It was the saddest day of my life. She had a dream of moving to Canada, Maggu said.

He insisted that the accident was a result of the absence of fear of punishment amongst traffic rule violators. Traffic cops are also non-serious in their duty. He said, “There was no traffic cop to manage the traffic at the accident spot despite a traffic post there. Had there been a cop present, the accused would not have driven the car at such a high speed.”

The accused, identified as Jobanjeet Singh (24) of Majithia enclave, was booked under sections 279, 304-A and 427 of the IPC.

However, the accused got bail within 24 hours.
