Students told about online procedure to register as voters

CHANDIGARH: The first interactive session of the Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) of the Department of Political Science, Panjab University, was held here today.

The first interactive session of the Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) of the Department of Political Science, Panjab University, was held here today.

SDM (Central)-cum-AERO Virat; SDM (South), Saurabh Mishra (Joint CEO); other officials from the Chandigarh Administration, students and faculty members participated in the discussion related to the electoral literacy awareness.

Virat briefed members of the Club regarding various initiatives taken by the Election Commission of India to mainstream the electoral literacy in the country in general and young voters in particular.

He discussed at length functions, objectives and nomenclature of clubs to be opened at different levels in the country.

He also briefed the students about the special electoral revision drive being carried out by the Election Commission from November 15-30 and persuaded them to get themselves registered and also motivate others to register through various means.

He also made the students aware about the online procedure to register as voters.

Dr Navjot, chairperson, Department of Political Science, said such interactions would increase awareness about electoral reforms and the ELC would organise such programmes on a regular basis.
