Swine flu claims two more lives

CHANDIGARH: Swine flu claimed two more lives today. While one patient was from the city, the other was from Kurukshetra in Haryana. So far, six persons have died of swine flu.

Swine flu claimed two more lives today. While one patient was from the city, the other was from Kurukshetra in Haryana. So far, six persons have died of swine flu.

Dr Gaurav Aggarwal, nodal officer of the UT Health Department, said a 35-year-old patient from Sector 52 in Chandigarh was suffering from tuberculosis. She was referred to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, Chandigarh, from the government hospital in Sector 45.

One of her lungs had stopped functioning while the other had developed an infection. Dr Aggarwal said the deceased woman underwent an abortion two days ago. 

Test reports revealed that she was suffering from sepsis. She was also found positive for HINI and succumbed to her injuries at the GMCH this morning. The second victim was from Kurukshetra. The 47-year-old woman was rushed to the PGI two days ago in a serious condition. She was declared positive for swine flu. According to doctors, her condition worsened today and she died. 

On July 20, a 42-year-old man from Sector 35 became the first victim of swine flu. On July 26, a 60-year-old woman from Maloya breathed her last while on July 29, a 35-year-old man from Himachal Pradesh succumbed to the flu. A 55-year-old  head constable with the Chandigarh Police died of swine flu on July 31.

Dengue larvae found at GMCH

A team of the Health Department inspected the GMCH on Thursday. Sources said the team found dengue larvae near the emergency ward of the hospital.
